In the heart of the New Forest, Minstead Church dates back to the Normans. Since 1272 successive generations have added to and altered the building to suit their needs. Parlour pews with fireplaces, the little windows and low ceilings give the church a 'cottagey' feeling. The porch, oak pews and 3-decker pulpit are 17thC. The galleries and transept were later additions, to accommodate a growing community. The oldest stone is the Saxon font, while probably the most sought-after by tourists is the gravestone of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
