Re-live a golden era and witness history brought to life by the story of the railways. A touch of nostalgia awaits you as you stroll past the treasures in the Warehouse or down the red carpets of Station Hall, towards the famous Royal Carriages.

Discover the Museum’s hidden treasures in Search Engine, our library and archive centre. Step on to the futuristic, Japanese Bullet Train, gaze up at our stunning replica of Stephenson’s Rocket, delve in to our Workshops and watch live demonstrations of the turntable and Winding Engine in action!

Watch live engineering work in progress in The Works and see how our engines are maintained. Check out the latest conservation work on Flying Scotsman or track train movements in and out of York Station at the Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC).

Every weekend and throughout the school holidays, the kids can enjoy a lively programme of events, including entertaining science shows, storytelling, craft activities and object handling.
